2019 FRONT PORCH OLD-TIME MUSIC WEEKEND!
CROMA and the Rocky Ridge Music Center (RRMC) have teamed up to host the inaugural Front Porch Old-time Music Weekend on April 7-9, 2019 in Golden, Colorado.
CROMA is excited to expand opportunities to learn old-time music, and dance, beyond our annual festival. We are equally pleased that RRMC, which runs the annual American Roots Music Program in their Estes Park facility, and has joined with us to make this possible. We see this as the start of a mutually supportive relationship that will nourish the old-time music community in our region.
The first Front Porch weekend will include (all covered by the $80/person registration fee):
- Full-day workshops (about 5 hours of instruction) on fiddle, guitar, and banjo (clawhammer) on Sunday, April 7. Each registrant chooses one instrument for the day. Instruction will be aimed at the beginner to intermediate level.
- An evening jam (or jams, including a slow jam) on April 7, after the workshops
- A house concert on Friday, April 5, 7-9 pm, with Tricia Spencer and Howard Rains
Workshop instructors include Tricia Spencer (fiddle), Howard Rains (guitar) and Jack Beuthin (banjo).
The house concert, workshops, and jam will all be held at the Common house of Harmony Village (a co-housing community) in Golden.
In addition, on Saturday evening, April 6, the Lyons Old-time Square Dance will be held at the Oskar Blues Grill & Brew in Lyons, CO. This event is not part of the Front Porch weekend (not included in the registration fee), but we wanted everyone to be aware of the opportunity to fill-in the weekend with a square dance with a live old-time band.
